Last night I had my first experience calling 911. About 1 am I woke up to Zach saying his back was really hurting. We had decided to get a new bed and before we went to bed he had helped me carry most of the boxes up the stairs, That was probabally our first mistake. I gave him what we thought was a pain medicine and a muscle relaxer and tried to rub out the huge knots that were up and down his back. After about an hour the pain hadn't subsided and was starting to feel worse as he was getting more tired and nothing was helping. I gave him some Tylonal with Codiene in it. and waited another 1/2 hour. Now what nothing was helping. He couldn't even get out of bed it hurt so bad. So I called. 911. The ambulance showed up and they helped him get out of bed and carried him down the stairs in a wheel chair and took him to the hospital. Good thing we called them because if I would have taken him they said the Hospital that we would have gone to was closed. I called a neighbor to come sit with the kids. And then took off for the hospital. There we found out that what we thought was a pain reliever was actually just an anti-inflamitory. They gave him some meds through an IV and then again through the IV along with some Vicadon. He was feeling much better. They said that his back was swollen in the Catscan they had done and to follow up with his Primary Care doctor on Monday. We then were released to come hom. All in all only about 3 hours in the hospital. After filling his perscription he has been able to rest today and the swelling in his back is noticably lessened. The pain is subsiding and he isn't taking the pain meds every 3 1/2 hours now it is around 4-5 hours inbetween. Hopefully by Monday he will be feeling better. We are icing his back off and on too which also seems to be helping. He will get another MRI Monday, we are hoping for the best maybe a shot and some PT. We'll see. Hopefully not another surgury. I will let you know how things go.
Love to you all
Lynette
