Our Trip from Orem UT to Kansas City MO
Yesterday was spent fixing the motor home and getting everything
ready for the trip. Dad was working right up through Friday of last
week, and then he had to finish remodeling my mom's bathroom, and
then do all the other things he had to get done before leaving.
Right around 3pm, they realized they could still leave, but decided
to have one more night here and leave rested the next day. Good
thing, as they discovered Lynette's bike was broken when she went to
ride it after Dad put it together.
This morning, Dad and Lynette went to the bike shop at 9am to get the
replacement part. Mom loaded up the motor home. Lynette took off on
her fixed bike to test it out ... and crashed. She came back home
with a badly skinned knee and a palm so swollen that my Dad (the one
who maintains his composure no matter what kind of injury we've shown
him) comes stomping into the house yelling, "ICE! GET ME AN ICE
PACK! I NEED ICE!" So, we cleaned up her leg, made her wiggle her
fingers and make a fist, and iced her palm as a blue bruise
appeared. We ate lunch, let the kids watch a movie, let Lynette calm
down, and then, at about 1:30pm, with an ice pack stuffed up into her
riding glove, Lynette followed Dad off down the street on their
bikes.
Mom let Kendall sleep until 3pm, then packed the kids, Kyle, and the
dog into the motor home and took off. They made it about 100 ft down
the street when they stopped and pulled over. Kyle jumped out and
ran back into the house shouting, "We forgot the dog bowls!" He
grabbed them, ran back to the motor home, hopped in, and they drove
off. They are planning on staying in Heber tonight and will be
somewhere around Strawberry tomorrow.
That is how our first day went in the words of my sister. We actually didn't leave till Tuesday, the plan had been for Monday. We have just finished our 3rd leg and are resting peacefully at Starvation? about 100 miles from Orem. After getting off we had a rather uneventful ride the first day. The excitement began shortly after arriving at the first destination, when we realized there was a water leak. My dad had me filling up the reserve tank while he ran around the motor home looking for the leak, unfortunately for me I was filling it faster than the leak was letting it out and I got sprayed with water. He eventually found the leak and a place to buy the part. (By this time weather had moved in and it was raining.) I called the parts place and they were closed but they guy said that he would wait for us to get there. The RV only has only 6 seat belts. We all hurriedly climbed in the RV Dad driving and mom in the No Doze Seat, (No Seat belt seat.) Crazy!! Mom was holding on tight as we rounded the corners because not only does she not get a seat belt but the seat she is in isn't even bolted to the floor so she was flying! Then the refrigerator door flew open and the eggs and salad fell on the floor! We made it to the shop only about 7 miles down the street and back without any more excitement.
The second day we started out in the rain but it cleared up about 7 miles into the ride. It was a pretty cold ride. 30 miles and the majority of it uphill at about 6 mph. We made it to Strawberry and dad had to fix another leak in the shower. The third day was a ton of down hill riding 44 miles, and dad got to fix the shower leak again, the kitchen faucet and the screen by the table. The latch to the bathroom is broken also. All just the little things keeping him busy when we aren't riding.
Over all we are having a ton of fun!
